In 2008 the news that cause a stir in Japan was mostly bad. The worldwide economic struggle hit Japan hard and the country dealt with food scandals, political resignations, earthquakes and murder in 2008.  The highlights of the year came with a good performance by the Japanese team at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and three Nobel Prize winners with ties to Japan.

  1. I can’t believe a non-lethal story about gyoza is the top story in that newspaper. A mass and brazen murder in Akihabara in broad daylight is only number 5! The resignation of the leader of the country behind junk, frozen food. Don’t want to say this hints at anti-Chinese (if not racist overtones) sentiment, but it’s got to be pretty hard to not think that. Or if neither of those are factors, then priorities are grossly miss-prioritized in Japan.
